A brand new programme that has been introduced by Dubai's transport department has just made it possible for residents of Dubai to take advantage of free parking for the first time.

Five parking permits per household are available to residents who live within 500 metres of a public parking lot.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority website is where applications should be submitted.

The permit can be renewed yearly for another year of use.

On Twitter, the RTA announced that residents of the United Arab Emirates could apply for a free parking permit at any of Dubai's paid public parking lots within 500 metres of their home.

The number of permits granted is determined on the applicant's need for private lodgings.

One-bedroom homes with an attached hall or studio are eligible for two licences, whereas two-bedroom homes with an attached hall are eligible for three licences. Four permits can be requested by those whose dwelling has at least three bedrooms and a common hallway.

Families in the UAE who occupy a four-bedroom house or apartment can apply for five licences.

Permit holders or their relatives must be the registered owners of the vehicle.

According to RTA's website, "the permit is issued for citizens residing in residential areas surrounding the paid parking spaces."

Residents of the United Arab Emirates can apply at any of Dubai's many customer service facilities.

Residential parking permits

Parking permits for the season are available for application by any and all local families, companies, and government entities.

On the website of the RTA, it is stated that the price of a general parking permit subscription ranges from Dh500 for a period of thirty days to Dh4,500 for an entire year. This subscription grants the bearer the ability to park in public parking lots located in Zones A, B, C, and D.

Parking garages with codes not included on the permit, including those at Dubai Silicon Oasis, JLT, Tecom, and Dubai Healthcare City, are off-limits to permit holders.
