Kuwait announces an official holiday this week due to the Majles Al Ummah elections

The government of the State of Kuwait announced an official holiday in all sectors this week on the occasion of the National Assembly elections "Kuwait National Assembly" in the State of Kuwait.

During the weekly session headed by Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti Council of Ministers decided to close all ministries, government and public bodies and institutions on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

According to Decree 29/2024, Thursday will be a day of rest by inviting voters to elect members of the National Assembly. The Council of Ministers also assigned bodies with the nature of work to determine their vacations with the knowledge of the competent departments in order to achieve the public interest.

Nominations for the Kuwaiti National Assembly elections have been closed for a total of 255 male and female candidates, with the number of male and female candidates reaching 241 and 14 female candidates in the elections scheduled for Thursday.

This is the first council during the era of Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait, who assumed the reins of power last December.

As for preparations, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior confirmed that it has completed the necessary preparations to organize the elections. Where 23 schools were prepared as polling stations; It includes 764 electoral committees; The necessary insurance preparations have also been completed to ensure that the elections take place in an atmosphere of discipline, calm and security.

The Ministry confirmed that the electoral centers had been examined to ensure their readiness, and that an administrative committee had been formed to prepare all administrative, financial and organizational requirements and the necessary services.

The Ministry explained that the electoral headquarters include 5 schools that will be the headquarters of the main committees in the five electoral districts, 16 schools in the first electoral district, 18 in the second, 22 in the third, 28 in the fourth, and 34 in the fifth.

The Ministry indicated that these schools will include 764 main, original and subsidiary electoral committees, headed by judges and members of the Public Prosecution, and that all necessary needs for members of the judiciary and heads of electoral committees have been prepared for polling day.

The Ministry also pointed out that awareness meetings were held for the participants to guide and direct them regarding the procedures that must be followed during the electoral process.
