UAE announces Zakat Al Fitr set at Dh25 for Ramadan 2024

This year, the Fatwa Council of the United Arab Emirates has established the zakat obligation and atonement fees for individuals who fail to observe fasting during Ramadan due to diverse circumstances.

The Fatwa Council of the UAE has determined the Zakat amount and the atonement fees for individuals who miss fasting during various circumstances in Ramadan this year.

Zakat Al Fitr has been stipulated at Dh25 in cash per person or an equivalent value of 2.5kg of rice per individual. This obligatory charity is due on the final day of Ramadan and is incumbent upon all financially capable Muslims, irrespective of age or gender. Additionally, the council has established atonement charges for those unable to observe fasts under different conditions:

Individuals Unable to Fast: Those incapable of fasting are required to pay Dh15 per day missed per person. Alternatively, they may opt to provide food, equivalent to 3.25kg of wheat per individual.

Intentional Breaking of Fast: Those intentionally breaking their fasts must compensate by paying Dh15 per person for sixty indigent individuals, amounting to Dh900 in total. Alternatively, they may choose to offer food, equivalent to 3.25kg of wheat per person.

Deceased Individuals who Missed Fasts: In the event of someone passing away while fasting without settling Zakat, the obligation falls upon their close relatives to fulfill it. The payment can be made from the deceased's estate, amounting to 3.35km of land per day, or Dh15 for each person.

Delayed Makeup of Missed Fasts: Individuals delaying the makeup of missed fasts without valid justification must remit Dh15 per day missed per person. Alternatively, they may provide food, equivalent to 3.25kg of wheat per person.

False Oaths During Ramadan: Those who falsely swear while fasting are obligated to pay Dh15 to ten impoverished individuals, totaling Dh150. Alternatively, they may opt to provide food, equivalent to 3.25kg of wheat per person.
