Sharjah Introduces New Passenger Train Station Linked to Etihad Rail

Dubai announces plans for a new train station near the University of Sharjah, aiming to cater to thousands of students.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Sharjah's Ruler, participated in the unveiling of this significant project, which will be situated at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi House adjacent to the University City of Sharjah. The station will be integrated into the Etihad Rail network, providing connectivity to various destinations across the country.

The construction of this passenger train station marks a pivotal development in Sharjah's transportation infrastructure. By linking the main track of the railway network to the new station, authorities anticipate a significant increase in passenger traffic, with projections indicating up to 14,000 passengers per day. One of the primary beneficiaries of this enhanced connectivity will be university students, who will have convenient access to the rail network for their commuting needs.

Moreover, the planned rail extension will traverse key locations and landmarks in Sharjah, as well as densely populated areas. This strategic positioning underscores the significance of the station as a central transportation hub, particularly in facilitating travel between Dubai and the northern emirates. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Etihad Rail Company, underscored the importance of this location in enhancing regional connectivity during the project's launch ceremony.

The initiative aligns with the broader vision of the UAE to modernize its transportation infrastructure and promote intercity connectivity. By investing in passenger trains and expanding the railway network, the UAE aims to establish a comprehensive and efficient transportation system that caters to the diverse needs of its population. This project reflects the government's commitment to fostering sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for residents across the country.
