UAE announces 80% increase in airline ticket prices for Eid al-Fitr holiday

Airline ticket prices for direct flights from the local market to Arab destinations such as Beirut, Amman, Cairo, and Alexandria are anticipated to surge by approximately 80% starting from the second week of April 2024 compared to their levels in the first half of March.

This information is based on data from ticket-booking websites. It's common for ticket prices to increase during holidays and peak seasons due to heightened demand for travel, which often exceeds the available seat capacity on flights.

According to officials from two travel agencies, the surge in demand for travel during these periods is the highest observed since the beginning of the year. Many travelers opt for early bookings to avoid these price increases.

The average ticket prices for round-trip flights lasting seven days remain high as of the end of March 2024, with peak prices expected between April 5th and April 17th. For instance, the average ticket price to Cairo during the first half of March was approximately 1,300 dirhams, rising to 2,200 dirhams during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, marking a 70% increase. Similar increases were observed for destinations such as Beirut, Amman, and Alexandria, with average ticket prices soaring by around 80% during the holiday period.

Salah Mansour, Executive Director of STS in the Dubai Link Group, noted that demand for travel typically begins to rise gradually during spring school holidays to various international destinations. He emphasized that demand for air travel rates is higher compared to the same period last year, with price increases ranging between 80 and 100% for some destinations, especially during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Narouz Sarkis, General Manager of Belhasa Tourism Company, highlighted that price increases during peak periods are a common occurrence, with demand exceeding the available supply of seats on flights. He advised travelers to consider early booking to secure lower prices and avoid the surge in ticket costs associated with peak travel periods.

The observed ticket prices, representing the least expensive fares, are subject to availability and differ from flexible fares offering additional benefits. The prices surveyed include round-trip flights and are expected to decline to their usual levels starting on April 16, gradually decreasing until April 20 as peak travel demand subsides.
