According to the United Arab Emirates Digital Government, if you are leaving the United Arab Emirates permanently, you are required to revoke your residency visa in order to avoid incurring fines.

An official cancellation of a residence visa that was sponsored by a family member or an employer is required in the event that the visa holder makes the decision to depart the United Arab Emirates permanently. It is necessary for the sponsor to revoke the residence visa.

Termination of employee visa

Employers that wish to terminate their employee's visa are required to submit an application to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) in order to terminate the employee's labor contract and labor card. It is also necessary for the employee to sign the application form.

After that, the employer is required to submit an application to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) in order to have the employee's visa declared null and void.

Following this, the employer is required to revoke the employee's work permit. The employer is required to provide MOHRE with a letter that has been signed by the employee confirming that the employee has already received full compensation and end of service benefits.

How to cancel a visa

Go to a registered typing center if you are an expat and you wish to cancel your visa. The typing center will submit the visa cancellation form to the Immigration and Citizenship Program (ICP) on your behalf. They can also file an application to cancel their visa by using the ICP website, or by using the ICP application, which can be found on Google Play or the App Store of UAEICP.

Cancellation of dependent visas

Expats who sponsor their spouse, children, or other dependents are required to first cancel the visas of their dependents before they are able to cancel their own visa.

Without canceling a resident visa, you run the risk of being considered to have overstayed your visa, which will result in a fine of Dh50 each day.
