UAE authority announces rolling road closures for cycling event on Monday

In anticipation of Monday's UAE Tour men's cycling competition, Abu Dhabi authorities have imposed temporary road restrictions.

In order to accommodate the opening stage of the tour, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi said that Madinat Zayed, in the Al Dhafra Region, will be subject to rolling closures from 12:35 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Starting in Al Dhafra Walk, Madinat Zayed, and ending at Liwa Palace, the first stage will cover 143 kilometers.

According to the provided map by ITC, the closures will occur in several phases throughout the day. The first phase will commence from 12:35 p.m. to 1 p.m., followed by subsequent phases lasting until 4:30 p.m..

The UAE Tour Women recently concluded successfully, paving the way for the men's tour scheduled from February 19 to 25. Over the course of seven stages spanning a total distance of 980km, riders will compete in various terrains, presenting opportunities for both sprinters and climbers alike. While four stages are tailored to favor sprinters, the tour also includes an individual time trial covering 12.1km. Additionally, the third and seventh stages will feature mountainous terrain on Jebel Jais and Jebel Hafeet, respectively.

Last year, Remco Evenepoel clinched the overall victory in the race, highlighting the competition's prestigious nature and attracting attention from cycling enthusiasts worldwide.

The UAE Tour is a significant event in the cycling calendar, drawing top riders and spectators from around the globe. It not only showcases the beauty of the Emirates' landscapes but also promotes sports tourism and healthy lifestyles.

The rolling road closures during the tour are necessary to ensure the safety of both participants and the public. They allow cyclists to navigate the designated route without interference from vehicular traffic, minimizing the risk of accidents and ensuring a smooth race experience.

With the increasing popularity of cycling events like the UAE Tour, authorities continue to invest in infrastructure and logistics to support such initiatives. These efforts contribute to the growth of the sports industry and enhance the country's reputation as a premier destination for world-class sporting events.
