The security authorities in the Makkah region stated on Tuesday morning that an unnamed man jumped desperately from the highest floors of Masjid Al Haram in Makkah. The man was taken to a hospital immediately after the event so he could get the treatment he needed.
The Special Force for the Security of the Grand Mosque has initiated an inquiry into the matter but has chosen not to disclose the individual's identity at this time. Representatives of the authority, speaking to X, stated that "the necessary procedures were completed," refraining from providing additional details surrounding the event.
This occurrence evokes memories of previous incidents at the revered site. In 2017, a Saudi national attempted self-immolation in front of the Kaaba, the sacred cubic structure at the heart of the mosque, but was intercepted by security personnel. The following year, 2018, witnessed three separate incidents related to suicide. In early June, a French citizen tragically ended their life by leaping from the mosque's roof. A little over a week later, a Bangladeshi national replicated this act of self-destruction. In August of the same year, an individual of Arab descent similarly took their own life by jumping from the Grand Mosque.
