Air India Temporarily Suspends flights to Tel Aviv

Leading Indian carrier Air India has decided to temporarily suspend its flights to Tel Aviv amidst renewed tensions in the region.

Direct flights between Delhi and Tel Aviv have been temporarily suspended, according to a report. New Delhi and Jerusalem are connected four times weekly by Air India.

Returning to Tel Aviv on March 3, the airline, owned by the Tata Group, had been off the air for nearly five months. In anticipation of a possible Hamas assault on the Israeli capital on October 7, 2023, Air India has already resolved to cancel all flights to and from Tel Aviv.

To further guarantee the safety of its customers, Air India and Vistara, another airline under the Tata Group, have decided to refrain from flying into Iranian territory. For their flights between the US and Europe, several airlines have chosen lengthier flight itineraries. Airlines are taking these precautions to ensure the safety of their customers and the continuity of their flights in response to a travel advisory from the Indian government that its people should not visit Iran.

To guarantee operational continuity in the face of such scenarios, Vistara is changing aircraft paths utilizing contingency routes, as stated in a media release. Flight route changes are in response to a travel advise from India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which warns Indian nationals from visiting Iran or Israel till further notice because of the ongoing tensions between the two countries.

People currently residing in these nations are also encouraged by the ministry to register with the Indian embassies. While navigating through complicated geopolitical conditions, Air India and Vistara emphasize the safety and well-being of its passengers by implementing these procedures and adhering to official advice.
