Bahrain has granted clemency to over 1,500 detainees in anticipation of the Eid al-Fitr festivities.

To commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of His Majesty's ascent to the throne and in observance of Eid al-Fitr, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, has issued a royal edict pardoning individuals imprisoned for offenses related to unrest and criminal activities.

The total number of individuals granted clemency through this edict is 1,584. This decree, symbolizing King Hamad's dedication to preserving Bahraini society's unity and stability, underscores his commitment to safeguarding the nation's social framework, advancing public welfare, defending individual and civil liberties, and upholding principles of fairness, legal governance, and the autonomy of the judiciary.

Moreover, it seeks to strike a harmonious balance between punitive measures and the compassionate consideration of the convicted individuals' humanitarian and societal circumstances. By affording them the opportunity for rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society, this act aligns with Bahrain's overarching principles of championing human rights.

The royal decree signifies a pivotal step in fostering a community-centric approach to justice, emphasizing rehabilitation over retribution, and acknowledging the importance of social cohesion in Bahrain's developmental trajectory. It underscores the monarchy's commitment to fostering a just and inclusive society, where the principles of equity, compassion, and respect for human dignity form the bedrock of governance.

Furthermore, this act of clemency exemplifies Bahrain's adherence to international standards of justice and underscores its commitment to upholding the rule of law while simultaneously prioritizing the welfare and dignity of its citizens. By extending clemency to a significant number of individuals, the Bahraini government seeks to promote reconciliation, foster social harmony, and reinforce the nation's reputation as a beacon of justice and compassion in the region.
