UAE cautions residents against stormy weather: take precautions, remain Vigilant

Asma Ahmed - | UAE

Beginning Monday afternoon, residents of the UAE should prepare for turbulent weather patterns characterized by the formation of convective clouds, which are likely to bring about rainfall, occasional lightning, and thunderstorms.

This weather alert follows a tragic incident in Oman where 13 lives were lost due to adverse weather conditions.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a cautionary advisory, emphasizing significant fluctuations in weather conditions across the UAE. The impending heavy rains, coupled with lightning and thunder, pose a potential threat of flooding in various areas. Moreover, strong winds are anticipated, which could lead to reduced visibility.

In response to these forecasts, the Ministry of Interior has assured the public of their readiness to manage the fluctuating weather conditions. The Ministry of Interior prioritizes the safety and protection of citizens and property, urging the public to follow the safety protocols and guidelines issued by relevant authorities during the anticipated period from April 15 to 17.

The timeline of weather events is outlined as follows:

  • Monday afternoon: Convective cloud formation is expected to initiate rainfall, lightning, and thunder.
  • Monday evening to Tuesday afternoon: unstable weather conditions to develop in Western areas, gradually spreading to Abu Dhabi, the Northern, and Eastern regions.
  • Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning: Another wave of unsettled weather will sweep across Western areas, affecting scattered regions with increased convective cloud activity and varying intensities of rainfall, lightning, thunder, and potential hail.

Authorities, including Abu Dhabi Police, Dubai Municipality, and Sharjah City Municipality, have issued safety guidelines to mitigate risks associated with the anticipated weather conditions. These include safe driving practices, securing outdoor objects, and ensuring proper drainage systems to prevent flooding.

Preparedness measures are in place, with dedicated teams and resources deployed to manage potential challenges. Residents are urged to exercise caution, adhere to safety protocols, and avoid areas prone to flooding. Continuous monitoring of the situation by relevant authorities ensures timely updates and assistance as needed.
