The Central Bank of Canada explained on its official website that it will provide an update on the design of Canada's new $20 banknote in commemoration of the first coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.
The Central Bank of Canada said that the new Canadian $20 note will have a vertical design like the current $10 note, and the new banknote will be made of polymer, primarily green in color.
Updated security features on the new banknote
Improved security features are scheduled to be incorporated into the new Canadian $20 banknote, in order to protect it from counterfeiting and give it more security.
More than $1 billion is in circulation for the Canadian $20 bill
For his part, the Governor of the Central Bank of Canada, Tiff Macklem, explained that more than one billion Canadian dollar bills, which are the main banknote in Canada, are scheduled to be in circulation.
He added that the new banknote bearing the image of King Charles III is scheduled to be officially issued in early 2027 AD. The issuance of the new banknotes takes a number of major steps, which include research, development and design, in addition to security features to prevent counterfeiting.
The Canadian $20 note continues to be in circulation
The Central Bank of Canada confirmed that the current Canadian $20 banknote, which bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II, will continue to be in circulation, as this note was issued for the first time at the beginning of 2012.
